My first visit to the Assin Manso Slave River in Ghana was more than a journey - it was a profound pilgrimage. Standing on the banks where countless of our ancestors took their final steps before the transatlantic slave trade, I felt a powerful connection to their strength, sacrifice, and enduring spirit.

In that sacred moment, I made a personal commitment to return, bringing others so they too could bear witness, honor the legacy of our ancestors, and connect with their own ancestral journey. From that commitment, Diaspora Voyages was born. As co-owner of Diaspora Voyages, my vision is to create meaningful travel experiences that connect people of African descent with the rich history, cultures, and  beauty of Africa. I fully appreciate the mantra of Ghana's first president, Kwame Nkrumah who said, "I am African not because I was born in Africa but because Africa was born in me."

Whether visiting historic landmarks, engaging with local communities, celebrating African heritage through naming ceremonies, food, music, art, and storytelling, or reflecting in places of profound historical significance, our goal is to ensure every voyage is educational, inspiring, and deeply personal.

I envision Diaspora Voyages as a bridge between the past and the future - a space where people of African descent can retrace the path of their ancestors, deepen their understanding of their heritage, celebrate the richness of African cultures, and return home transformed by a renewed sense of identity, connection, and belonging.

For me, travel is more than simply visiting new places and seeing all the popular tourist spots. It is connecting with people, the culture, and having stories to tell afterwards that make each destination unique. I believe the most meaningful experiences happen beyond the tourist attractions, through shared meals, local conversations, memories, and moments that deepen our understanding of the world.

My first visit to Ghana was life-changing. It strengthened my connection to my roots and affirmed my belief that people of African descent deserve the opportunity to experience the diaspora for themselves, rather than knowing of places only through media portrayals or secondhand accounts. There is so much to experience by walking the streets, meeting the people, and embracing the rich culture.

When my co-founder, Trevor, and I began traveling together in 2023, we realized we shared a common vision: to create journeys that foster authentic cultural connection, personal transformation, and lasting memories. Together, we founded Diaspora Voyages to offer immersive, thoughtfully curated experiences that are authentic, accessible, and rooted in culture.

Our goal is to inspire travelers to deepen their cultural connections, broaden their perspectives, explore the diaspora with intention and purpose, and make memories to last a lifetime.
